Wandering through the ancient hot spring streets of Arima Onsen,
one of Japan’s oldest and most celebrated onsen towns,
nestled in the mountains of Hyogo Prefecture.
This walk begins at Taiko Bridge and follows the Arima River downstream
through Arima River Waterfront Park, then climbs up past Nene Bridge.
Along the way, hidden side streets reveal Yumekoujin (有明泉源),
a quietly steaming natural hot spring source.
From the Gumi no Ki hilltop, the entire onsen town stretches out below.
The route continues through narrow stone lanes,
past Suiten-jinja Shrine, Tansan Slope,
the 炭酸泉源公園 (Tansan Carbonated Spring Park),
Ginnoyu bath house, and the serene Nembujti-ji Temple.
Passing Gosho Onsen Source — wisps of steam rising gently —
the path leads down Kinsen Slope through souvenir shop streets,
all the way to Uwanari-no-Yu (妬湯),
where a hidden alley opens into a dramatically steaming hot spring source.
The walk ends along the main road back to Taiko Bridge,
passing the Yukemuri Plaza and the Taiko (Toyotomi Hideyoshi) Statue,
before arriving at Arima Onsen Station.
No narration. No subtitles. Just the sounds of steam, stone, and an old town breathing.
