Planning food for a bigger backpacking trip can get complicated fast, but I try to keep it simple: bring food I know I’ll actually eat.
In this video, I’m walking through my full food plan for a 130+ mile hike on the Santa Fe to Taos Trail. This is roughly 9 days of backpacking food, split between my starting food carry and a resupply partway through the hike.
I don’t count every calorie, and I don’t try to optimize every meal for calories per ounce. Instead, I focus on bringing food I enjoy, adding variety, making resupply manageable, and keeping the food bag realistic for a longer backpacking trip.
This isn’t the lightest, healthiest, or most optimized backpacking food plan, but it’s food I’ll actually want to eat on trail, and that matters.
Full Santa Fe to Taos gear list video coming next week!
Cheers!
