I came across a Reddit thread that asked people with chronic pain a simple question: “What’s in your chronic pain toolbox?”

I expected medications, braces, maybe a heating pad or two.

Instead, the answers were surprisingly revealing.

Some people listed migraine sticks, KT tape, cooling eye masks, heating pads, and PRN medications. Others mentioned video games, art, books, movies, favorite chairs, hot water bottles, and even crying. One of the most common themes wasn’t treatment at all. It was distraction.

And that’s what stood out to me.

Most of these answers weren’t cures. They were tools people have collected over months or years of trial and error. Little things that make a difficult day slightly more manageable. That’s something many people without chronic pain don’t always realize. For a lot of patients, success isn’t necessarily waking up pain free. Sometimes it’s building a toolbox that helps you function, participate in life, and get through the day despite the pain.
