Commemorating the founding of Kyoto, the Jidai Matsuri is one of the most important festivals held in the old Imperial city, and was one of the factors in my decision to visit Kansai region at this time.
I started off by walking the entire procession route myself, in reverse, before the parade started, in order to find a good site to set up the tripod, and settled on this intersection outside a shopping arcade. This way I could get a view of things as they approached, and as they moved away, and was unlikely to be blocked out by other people. There was also a stone ledge on which to sit, so I was not as much in other peoples’ way either.
