Eternity in Kyoto’s Rainy-Season Light — 188 Photographs and Natsuho Murata’s Historic Rome Performance of Ysaÿe’s Sonata No. 4 | 4K

June 11, 2026.
During a sunny break in the rainy season, I took 188 photographs at Kyoto Botanical Gardens.
I paired these images with Natsuho Murata’s performance of Ysaÿe’s Sonata for Solo Violin No. 4 from her recital in Rome.
Just thirteen minutes.
Yet the depth of our encounter with beauty cannot be measured by a clock.
Thankfully, the organizer has made the entire recital available on YouTube.
To bring an outstanding performance to people around the world, rather than leave it solely in the memories of those who were present.
I believe this, too, is an important responsibility of concert organizers in the twenty-first century.
Every performance in this recital was historic.
From among them, I chose Ysaÿe’s Sonata for Solo Violin No. 4 for this film.
The work’s full title is Sonata for Solo Violin No. 4 in E minor, Op. 27, No. 4.
Ysaÿe dedicated it to the great violinist Fritz Kreisler.
Allemande, Sarabande, Finale.
The music of three movements rises from a single violin.
The life breathing in a Kyoto garden and Natsuho’s music sounding in Rome.
Two distant places come to share a single span of time in this film.
Photography preserves the passing light.
Music gives that light time to live again.
Through 188 photographs in 4K, I wish to share with people around the world the beauty I encountered on a day when the rainy skies opened.
